The 1x1 contest is a fundraiser for our local ADFED organization. All the area designers and design students from local colleges are encouraged to participate. The rules are simply, everyone is given a 1inch thick 1ft x1ft board. You can paint it, carve it, cut it and do whatever you want. The board just has to be part of the piece somehow.
This year I made a robot, the head and body are constructed from the board, I managed to use every square inch of it (very tricky). I then accessorized him with some washers and old plumbing supplies and applied some paint techniques to give him that steampunk finish all the kids are crazy about these days. He stands about 24 inches tall with the antenna.
I ended up receiving "the Best Thing Here" award for my efforts. Cool!
The toaster in my collection was a previous years entry, it also won top honors.
Way to go! This is really cool, really cute too. Gives me other artistic inspiration, in the field of game development Would make a nice little robot companion or something.
